On a trip to Mexico after opening his first couple of restaurants, Chef/Proprietor, Scott Harris met a wonderful old Agave farmer with a dedicated pet donkey. This man’s steadfast donkey had worked alongside him in the Agave fields for over 20 years!
While most people would disregard their work animal, the old man farmer treated Fat Rosie as part of the family. They had a rare and inseparable bond that had formed through the many years of hard work, sweat, and tears. Scott admired the love and care that this old man had for his trusted donkey.
He admired it so much in fact, that one night after many shots of tequila he promised the old farmer he would one day open a tequila bar and name it after the beloved donkey, Fat Rosie.

We walked in on a Friday evening without any formal reservation yet we got the table pretty quickly. This place has a party vibe and rustic ambiance and was too loud with music. We ordered a bunch of items from cocktails to desserts. The cocktails were phenomenal and the quantity was generous. We loved their fiesta nachos and the queso fundino with warm tortillas. The rest of the items were very average. The chimichanga was undercooked and extremely chewy, the chile relleno had a bitter aftertaste. However, the enchiladas were cheesey and delicious. We finished our meal with flan which was splendid.
Absolutely incredible dining experience at Fat Rosie's in Naperville! From start to finish, the food, drinks and atmosphere were spot on. As soon as we sat down, we were treated to a generous basket of crispy, warm complimentary chips w/ salsa! featuring a fresh, roasted flavor with just the right amount of kick. We paired our starters with a refreshing, vibrant tropical cocktail topped with fresh mango chunks which was easily one of the best drinks I’ve had in a long time. For the main entrees, the steak fajita arrived sizzling hot, packed with tender, perfectly seasoned steak, peppers and onions alongside a fantastic spread of rice, beans, fresh guacamole and sour cream. The beef tacos were equally phenomenal with the seasoned ground beef was incredibly flavorful and juicy, beautifully topped and served with a side of perfectly seasoned Mexican rice and rich refried beans. The portions were generous and the ingredients tasted remarkably fresh and the vibrant decor made the entire meal a fun experience. We will definitely be back soon and I highly recommend checking this spot out if you are in downtown Naperville!
I recently visited Fat Rosie’s Taco & Tequila Bar on Taco Tuesday and had a really enjoyable experience. The atmosphere was very lively and inviting, which made it a great night to stop in. I ordered the chicken and steak fajitas, and they came out sizzling hot, which is always a good sign. The flavor was really good and the portion was generous. The plate came with sides of refried beans, rice, and all the classic condiments like pico de gallo, sour cream, and shredded cheese, which made it easy to build the fajitas exactly how I like them. The chips and salsa were also very good and fresh — a great way to start the meal. The star of the show for me was the frozen strawberry margarita . It had a really good flavor and the presentation and vibe of the drink were on point. My server, Alfredo, did an excellent job. He was very attentive, checked in often, and made sure everything was taken care of throughout the meal. Overall, it was a very good experience with great food, good drinks, and solid service. I’d definitely come back again, especially on Taco Tuesday for the fun atmosphere.
First time here and everything was delicioso! 🌮✨ When I walked in, I was surprised by how big the restaurant was. The place was so colorful, vibrant, and welcoming. Since the weather was nice, we decided to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere. We came here for dinner, and the restaurant was pretty busy, but the wait wasn’t too long and our food came out faster than I expected. I forgot to take pictures, but we started with the queso dip, and honestly, it was so good! I never really liked queso before, but this place might have changed my mind. We also ordered the Steak Fajitas, Mix & Match Taco Plate, and the shrimp taco was definitely my favorite. I always order Steak Fajitas at Mexican restaurants, and I can confidently say this one is going to be one of my favorites now. We also tried the Quesabirria Tacos. It was a little too salty for my taste, but I think that’s just because I’m used to eating food with a much lighter amount of salt. My friend actually enjoyed it and mentioned that this style of food is usually more flavorful and seasoned. For dessert, we got Rosie’s Churro Sundae, and it was SO delicious! The portion was much bigger than I expected, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. My friends also ordered some drinks, and since I don’t drink alcohol, I didn’t get to try them, but they looked absolutely gorgeous! The servers were very kind, welcoming, and easy to approach whenever we had questions. There were also photographers walking around offering to take pictures of you and your group. Just keep in mind that the photos are not free. Overall, I would definitely come back here again and try more dishes! Great atmosphere, great service, and amazing food. 🌮
Fun environment and yummy food (refried beans!) made my Tex mex loving heart very happy. Warm tortilla chips are served with amazing salsa. Chicken enchiladas were such a large portion that I have lunch for tomorrow! We were there mid week and were seared quickly, but it did seem like reservations might be encouraged.
